"Hey Sunny, did you bought the ingredients I asked for?" Caroline asked as she heard the door's lock became undone.
Her little sister, Sunny, came in with a few bags of groceries and set them down on the kitchen table; her uplifting smile asked her older sister's question and she started to unpack. Caroline locked the door before returning to the kitchen to help unpack.
"Why did you ask me to buy this strange stuff that we almost never use?" asked Sunny as she inspected a bag of flour.
"We are going to do a sister to sister bonding session by baking pies!"
The word 'pies' caused a rush of excitement as Sunny always loved to cook things but she was a little loss when it comes remembering recipes so her sister always lend her a hand. Caroline and Sunny split up to gather up all of the required cookery; Caroline also arranged the items that Sunny bought so that it was easier to find what they needed. Caroline instructed Sunny on how to use the oven that was off-limits unless under supervision; she also showed her the simplicity in the complexity of the electronic mixer. Caroline also briefed Sunny on what to do when baking and soon, they were ready to start baking.
Caroline started to cut the lemons into halves on the chopping board while Sunny was peeling the apples. After they had completed, Sunny passed the apples to Caroline for slicing while taking the lemons and started squeezing the juice; pouring it into a measuring cup. Caroline placed the apples into a large bowl then added the lemon juice; she went to the shelf and took tins of white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; Sunny started to combine most of the flour with water then made the lining and placed it on the nine inch pie pan. Caroline was mixing the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg and the remaining flour with the apple-lemon juice mixture. She then poured the filling into the pastry lined pie pan, afterwards, Sunny placed the second crust on top.
Caroline then took some butter and a fork and started to make the ventilation for the pie and then sealing off the edges using the fork. Meanwhile, Sunny stiffed an egg yolk into a bowl then added milk. She started to beat it until it had a good consistency. Caroline took a brush and spread the egg mixture on the top of the pie.
Caroline took the pie and slipped it into the oven and started to bake it at four hundred and twenty five degrees Fahrenheit for fifteen minutes. Afterwards, Sunny thought the crust still looked under cooked so she turned the heat down to three hundred and fifty and waited till it was golden brown.
That evening, they enjoyed a lovely pie that they bake. But then who is going to clear the mess in the kitchen?
